Volunteerism

Volunteers help to make all the programs and services offered by the Center possible. From supporting Project Q as an adult mentor to staffing the front desk to assisting with fundraising efforts, volunteers work closely with Center staff and have been a key element in the successful development of the Center.

IN HONOR OF OUR VOLUNTEERS

Both the Board members and staff of the Center celebrate all our volunteers, whether they have just started or been around for years.

Special Events Volunteers Needed!

The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center is looking for creative and hard working volunteers to help us with several events this year. Volunteers will be setting up the room, making name badges, showing guests where to gather, and helping to clean up after each event. In general there will be two pre-event meetings about 1-2 hours in length to plan for each event. Previous volunteers have enjoyed the events and meeting new people.

Please contact Dave Martin at 414-292-3066 to sign up for these fun events!
Marketing Volunteers Needed!

The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center is seeking volunteers to help with marketing our events and programs through newsletters, website, print and other social media. Volunteers may participate in the development of a Marketing Plan, execute ads and other print media, develop social marketing campaigns, and any other creative ideas volunteers might have about marketing. The group will meet about once a month to develop plans and strategies for making the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center a high visibility organization. About 5-8 hours a month.

Please contact Dave Martin at 414-292-3066 to learn more about the committee.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Please contact Dave Martin, Operations Manager, for more information about these volunteer opportunities at 414-292-3066 or e-mail him at dmartin@mkelgbt.org.

Anti-Violence Project (AVP)

AVP addresses the impact of domestic abuse, sexual assault and hate crimes on LGBT people by raising community awareness and connecting victims to LGBT-friendly services.

Front Desk Reception/Library

For Center programs to function smoothly, front desk volunteers sit at the reception desk in the lobby of the Center to ensure that all visitors find the appropriate programs, meeting rooms and staff. Responsibilities for front desk volunteers include answering phones, directing people to meetings, monitoring of the CyberCenter, and, when necessary, closing the Center in the evenings after programs conclude.

The LGBT Community Library holds over 2,000 LGBT-related books, both fiction and nonfiction. Library volunteers help to maintain the collection. Volunteer shifts would be at the same time as frontdesk volunteering.

LGBT Breast Health Program

This program focuses on developing breast health awareness for the LGBT community and providing resources for people who cannot afford a breast cancer screening.

Philanthropy & Special Events

The Philanthropy Department, which designs and executes all fundraising and friend-raising activities at the Center, regularly seeks Philanthropy and Special Events volunteers. Some volunteers maintain our membership database and coordinate mailing membership renewal notices or other special announcements, whereas others help to plan, design, and staff such special events as our annual gala, annual membership meetings, holiday online auctions, and Mix ní Mingle social gatherings.

ATTENTION FRONT DESK VOLUNTEERS: PLEASE CALL 414-271-2656 MON THRU FRIDAY, 10AM TO 8PM TO CONFIRM YOUR SHIFT.
